On 20th November, the education sector will come together at Birmingham’s NEC for the Schools and Academies Show. Places are still available, and you can register here.

NGA have supported the Schools and Academies Show for many years as a fantastic forum which brings together all parts of the education sector to share information, innovations and tangible solutions. As always, we are keen to make sure that governance gets the attention it deserves in these settings. With that in mind, we have joined with the show to deliver a specific “Governance Trail” – a series of events across the day with a particular relevance for trustees, governors and governance professionals.

The Governance Trail will cover a range of topics, and attendees are free to attend as many or as few as they wish. The vast majority will include one of our senior leadership team as a panelist, ensuring that a specialist governance insight is provided. For a specifically trust audience, we are covering two vital topics:

  • A morning workshop on trust growth, a topical issue as the new government defines it approaches, and still the most significant change that any trust will make, with huge ramifications for the entire organisation.
  • An afternoon workshop on trust central teams, one of the core features of the trust model which can add significant organisational capacity and help MATs realise the full potential of the trust model.

Our cross-sector sessions will cover a number of big issues for those governing: managing change; safeguarding and pupil wellbeing; AI; and leadership in the education sector of today.

The only topic with two sessions is finance, with one session on the practicalities of balancing the books and another on the big picture of school funding as a policy issue. This reflects what our members have been consistently telling us – balancing the budget is their biggest challenge and biggest priority.

Of course, speaker events are only one part of the show. Our members tell us that many of their most useful takeaways from each year’s show are their conversations across the exhibition space, with fellow attendees and the numerous organisations running stands. The NGA team will be in attendance, and would love you to come over and say hello. We will be at stand E86, right outside the main stage.
